Re: Trouble setting ISO on Canon 40D

I'll have to dig back through my info. I clearly remember someone, somewhere saying that the lowest ISO you should shoot at is 200 on the 40D. We just adopted that as easiest to use.

I can't see any noise issues with anything below 800 but noise is very subjective and dependent upon what is being shot. Another person I know swears that 3200 ISO on the 40D is free of noise in prints. I can't say that I agree with that but some people actually prefer a little noise.

Re: Trouble setting ISO on Canon 40D

Noel, I shoot jpg most of the time, but I do shoot some RAW. I just thought that feature sounded like a good insurance policy against clipping the highlights. I tend to shoot a little to the left anyway to get a little more color saturation, so I probably don't need the highlight tone priority feature turned on.

Mostly I shoot as a hobbyist, but occasionally I shoot a few senior pictures, maybe a high school reunion, etc. In those cases I normally shoot Raw and jpg as insurance.

Doug Kerr, thanks for the tip on the small '00' to remind you that the HTP is on!

Doug Axford, I'm like you, I shoot 200 and 400 the most and see no problems with either. Occasionally, when needing a slow shutter speed and small aperture if there's "too much light" I go to 100. Like a waterfall. This camera does a great job of keeping the noise down, esp at under 800.
