Need quote for requested service!

Last summer I photographed a hockey camp of a bunch of 9 & 10 years olds run by 2 retired NHL players and a presently working NHL referee. I took over 800 photos in the course of 2 hours, including team photos and individual shots of all the coaching staff. I was at the rink breaking in some new equipment at the time and knew one of the lessor known coaches who gave me permission to photograph the kids as a group and of the coaching staff.

I have now been asked by one of the NHL players if they can acquire a copy of all the photos on cd and editing of some of the better photos so that they can prepare new marketing material for their upcoming summer camps and for subsequent summer camps in the years to come. They typically have a brochure and a booklet that they send out to families who are interested in the summer camp and they usually prepare posters for inside the rink for additional advertising. They typically register approximately 100 kids in the course of the 2 weeks and registration fee for each child is around $1000.00.

Of the 800 or so photos, I have chosen about 130 of them that would work great for their marketing purposes. All 130 of them were put through DPP and Lightroom. Of the 130, another 50 were additionally edited in photoshop CS3 for individual editing.

I will be providing them with cd's of the 800 or so raw photos, Tiffs of the 130 chosen marketing pictures, and Jpegs of the 130 for easy viewing.

Now I have no idea what to charge for such a service. Any advice on a high end quote and a low end quote so I can have some idea as what to charge for this service would be greatly appreciated.

atleast $150/hr for shooting and digital time...i wouldnt be so hot on giving out raw images for many reasons. so may that adds up to $500-1000.

i have the feeling they have $$, can you get usage fees too? i would make a modest request. maybe $3-4k for usage.

thats only 4 kids to sign from your photos, makes a lot of sense to me. but its amazing how far jobs are apart.. some people gawk at a $300 bill, others wont flinch at $3000.

Before selling these images of minor children, I would check to see if the hockey league has signed consent from the parents of the children that includes use of their images. Taking pictures in a public arena is fine, but selling the images for use in advertising would require a model release.

If they do not have the releases, perhaps you could have them add it the registration this year.

Even if they somehow did get releases, giving them all the images with unbridled usage, not a good idea.

My gut feeling is that they will not want to pay anything for images for the advertising. They are going to try to make you feel like they are doing you a favor by using them. So you will need to make the money in a more roundabout way.

You might want see if you can sell directly to the parents at the event ( or online after). You might get a better response if each child is photographed with one of the NHL players with appropriate text and graphics added. You could make way more than what they would be willing to pay straight up for the images for the advertising.

And in return for the opportunity to shoot and sell to the parents, with a graduated scale of images vs your income, they get X number of images for advertising. They have no capital outlay for images, and you make money.

Win-Win.

This could be a good opportunity, or you could have just done all the post processing for nothing.
