Am shooting the 30D primarily with my 10D as a backup. Flash is 550EX. Actually it works exceptionally well with both cameras. I need a backup and trying to decide on the 580EXII, 430EX, or the comparable Metz. Agian the 550 wotks great but obviouly is difficult to find one. Just looking for some feedback and suggestions.

I just bought a 580EX II to compliment my 550EX, great flash, recycle time is very fast and the flash output seems more accurate compared to my four year old 550EX. It also tilts and swivels much easier (one button) and has a metal hot shoe that connects with one press of a lever instead of the tightening wheel. They can either be used as masters or slaves.

I also have the 30D and just recently purchased the 580 EX II and love it. I use it with two 550EX flashes. The 580 is one powerful flash and like Jerry stated, it is very quick on the recharge. I use it as my main flash. The Metz is an excellent flash but my guess is that you would pay more for a comperable to the 580.
