Canon 580EX II with 30D

I have been using the Canon Compact Battery Pack E (not the E2, 3 or 4) with my 580EX II and 30D. This combination has been working great for me. I recently purched another Canon Compact Battery Pack E as a back up. It was "new/old stock". When I connect this pack to the 580EX II the red pilot lamp will continually blink. My research indicates that this could mean that the pack is putting out more than 360v which would indicate a faulty pack. Now, I am assuming that since my current pack E works with the 580EX II that this one should also. Does anyone know if this pack is compatable with the 580EX II? Thanks.

Ron
