Teathered Shooting

I'd like to hook up my laptop to my 1d Mark II so I can see what I've shot as soon as I shoot. What do I need in the way of cables and software? Thanks!
Steve

Re: Teathered Shooting

All the stuff you need should have been right in the box. It was with all the Canons I ever bought.

Software, USB cable & manuals. Is there something else you were looking for ?

Re: Teathered Shooting

an extra long cable would be nice, 10 - 15 feet.

Re: Teathered Shooting

OK, simply buy a USB extension cable & you're all set.

If you search back here, I seem to recall a discussion on how long you can go with a good quality cable before needing any extra signal boosting. It's no problem for almost all situations though, I used to be 25'. Just watch out for your computer going to sleep between takes. I had a problem with the number sequence resetting to 1 years ago when you re-establish the link. I don't tether now. Speed of cards are great for my purposes.

Re: Teathered Shooting

ur camera comes with the firewire cable thats the one you need, the usb cord is for direct print. the FW port is the metal retangular socket, on the top i think. carefull both the FW and usb ports look the same on this camera.

the FW cable is shorter that comes with the 1d2 is much shorter than the one for the 1ds2, see if that cable is availble somewhere.

i prefere capture one for teathered shooting.

FW 400 (regular FW) is limited to 14-15ft, FW 800 can go i think almost 100ft. i have a FW 800 cable 30 ft thats 9 pin(standard fw400) to 6pin (standard fw800). not any faster but gives longer length. i think you would need a male 9 pin to female 6 pin cable.

Re: Teathered Shooting

i have tried the USB/FW extenders without sucess, but that could be my own experiences.

a 15ft FW cord from canon is availble here for $64

Canon | IFC-450D4 IEEE-1394 4 pin to 6 pin Interface | 8193A001 Canon_8193A001_IFC_450D4_IEEE_1394_4_pin.html

and this is where i got my long FW cord
Newnex FireWire 800 IEEE 1394 Cables
