Re: Teathered Shooting

I just noticed something interesting. While trying to set another program in the EOS Utility Linked Programs, I was only able to add one program. When I tried to add another, it replaced the program I had added before. So it looks like you only get one choice of additional program, in addition to DPP and Zoom Browser.

Re: Teathered Shooting

Go to Eye-Fi.com and check out their new SD card. I have one and use it exactly as you want too, and it works perfectly for me.

Re: Teathered Shooting

I shoot tethered 2 or 3 times a year and use the canon utility and DPP for viewing. Works well, but auto rotate doesn't work (for me) when tethered, not sure why.

I have an Eye Fi card and adapter coming Monday and I'm very curious to see how that works. When I shoot tethered it's for immediate sales previewing and for speed we just use small or medium JPGs anyway. For events and school type shoots letting the client choose the shot has increased sales a good bit. I have a college yearbook shoot in a bout 10 days and I may give this a go there and see how it works in the line of fire.

This is another one of those things about EOS Utility that's not exactly intuitive. If you want auto rotate to work you have to NOT check the "Rotate Images" item in Remote Shooting preferences.

I think what they're getting at with "Rotate Images" is that with it on, the viewing software controls the rotation. In other words, it over-rides the camera set rotation with its own rotation setting. I have a feeling that EOS Utility simply strips the rotation info from the file when that box is ticked so that the viewing software is now in charge. With that box unchecked your camera controls the rotation setting and that's sent with the file. Anyway, my 5D images come in auto rotated properly if I leave that box unchecked.
