Re: Teathered Shooting

If you are using Windows try "DSLR Remote Pro" from Breeze Systems DSLR Remote Pro - Remote Capture Software for Canon EOS-1D Mark III, EOS 40D, EOS-1D, EOS-1DS, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS 10D, 300D, 350D, 20D, 5D, Rebel XT, DIGITAL REBEL, Kiss Digital cameras via a PC Using FireWire or USB. You get an almost instant image and can shoot from the laptop or camera, it also has the facility to change camera settings from the laptop. If you are using a Mac, use the Canon software that came with the camera and link it to Aperture.

Re: Teathered Shooting

Is it possible? My studio is arranged so that one section is for business, [computer, printers], etc. The other section has the backdrops and portrait camera, lighting etc. The sections are seperated by a row of tables. I plan to kind of add to the seperation by adding a big screen tv to the line of tables facing the business part. Is it possible to tether to the computer and have image appear on the big screen? Thought it would be neat if I can do it.

Re: Teathered Shooting

Try Cables To Go - Computer Cables, Audio Video Cables, DVI Cables, USB Cables, PC to TV, KVMs, Cat5E, Video Splitters, and more!
Five meter USB to Nikon D200 $26.99 plus UPS.
No idea about the quality, since I ordered just one I'll know pretty soon whether to order additional cables from them.
Hope this helps - Ed

Doug, using the 40D, trying tethered for the first time...I'm trying to use EOS Utility SW, but I can't find the pdf instruction file that goes with it. Reading online I tried this:

Installed the EOS Utility SW
Connected the 40D to the computer via USB port
Turned on camera
The software comes up, but I can't for the life of me get it to bring up a screen where I can see pictures I've shot while connected.

I know I'm not getting the SW set up correctly or something, but like I say, I can't find the instruction file.

Can anyone help get me going to shoot tethered to a computer using the Canon 40D?

Thanks in advance
Lamar

I use EOS Utility on a Mac with a 5D. I presume the 40D works the same way.

All EOS Utility does is control the camera and get the file to the computer. It then calls another application to view the image. By default its setup to call one of the Canon apps. If you don't have one of those installed, then it won't show you anything. You can also set it to call some other application if you prefer. I use Bridge. In the EOS Utility prefs you can specify the destination folder where you want images to be saved and you can also specify which (if any) application that you want EOS Utility to "call".

I think what you are looking for is Canon's Remote Capture DC. On the Mac it is in the Canon/Camera Window folder. This is the utility that allows you to adjust your camera settings and take photos using your computer interface.
