Quiet shutter?

Hi All,

I have a job coming up and it has been deemed that the shutter noise on our 1 series cameras is too noisey.

Can anyone who has 1 series and other D30, D60, 20D etc advise if they are much quieter?

I have considered using the padded rain covers as supplied by Rosen on EBay to deaden the sound but I think it may fill with condensation?

Re: Quiet shutter?

You've tried the PF21 "quiet mode" on your 1-series (which separates the shutter and mirror return into two separate sounds)?

My 400D has the least obtrusive shutter sound of any DSLR I have used. On top of that you could use this.

Re: Quiet shutter?

Hi Nil,

Thank you, I had quite forgotten about about that!

However, I can select PF21 but cannot activate it, the "On / Off" is greyed out and wont select, am I being dense (as usual) or am I missing something?

Re: Quiet shutter?

As a Nikon user I only spent a few months with a 1D some years ago. If I remember right, you have to hook up the camera to the computer and activate the function by the Utility CD first ...

Re: Quiet shutter?

Having used D30, 10D, 20D, and now 40D:

40D is nice and quiet. A really smooth sound.
10D is pretty quiet.
D30 is okay, but a bit noisy.
20D is noisy as hell.

Don't know about D60. I never had one.

Re: Quiet shutter?

If the quiet mode isn't satisfactory, if you can lay your hands on a Camera Muzzle, it works great. I have one which I used on the D2X. Haven't tried it yet on the 1Ds.

Re: Quiet shutter?

even with it enabled it's still quite noisy and if your used to the way the mirror works in std mode getting used to quiet mode takes a while as the viewfinder blackout is noticeable. also it is only quiet in one shot mode not motor drive.

The 40d is v quiet in comparision, but not silent.

Try popooing along to a dealer and having a play
