Re: 40D in use - wedding shots from Saturday

Those links work fine. Whatever the parser looks for in the referral obviously is not in those links.

I suspected it had something to do with the link, but didn't think of the referral.

Impressive, Chris, especially that ISO 3200 image. Sounds like you like the thing too. It's good to see the 40D already seeing real action.

Thanks for posting the shots.

Solution for the "forbidden" message on pbase.com

Hi Chris,

Your latest links work fine although the ones in the original post still don't work for me.

But I think I know the solution to the problem because I use pbase also and I've had this problem too, and found a fix. You will notice that the pbase server name is included in the first links you provided (that's the "i.pbase" part of the link). This happens when you right click and get the URL by displaying properties on your pbase images. The problem with that is that of the (many) pbase servers, if the one in your URL is down, you will get the 'foribidden' message.

SOLUTION:
Instead of getting the url with right click - properties, instead just copy the URL from your browser window and add the ".jpg" suffix to it. When you do that, the photos display no matter what.

I noticed this problem sometimes when I would display an image in a photo forum only later to find that sometimes the links were bad. Then someone shared this info with me... so I am passing it on here.

I hope this is helpful.
Tim

I have images here as well (ISO test shots of the 40D) and other sites i've posted to have had these exact same issues seeing the issues here.

It must be an internet conspiracy!

Try this....
Formals Photo Gallery by Christopher Perry at pbase.com the last 4 images and Reception Photo Gallery by Christopher Perry at pbase.com the last image.

Weird.

Re: 40D in use - wedding shots from Saturday

Chris,
I'm interested in your thoughts about focusing. I have a 1DMkII I am considering selling in advance of the 1DsMkIII I am due to receive as soon as my camera store gets one. I considering getting the 40D as the backup for the new flagship, but am not sure what to think about the 9 point focus system vs the 1D I'd be giving up with so many more focus points.

Re: 40D in use - wedding shots from Saturday

I've not use a 1D under battle conditions, so I can't speak for the focusing points on it. I've used a 5D and don't like the 9 points on it - same spacing/position as a 20/30/40D but it's FF - so there is more 'whitespace' around teh edges of the frame so to speak and I find that very limitiing, especially for portrait orientation.

A friend shoots wedding with a 1D 3 and used a 1D mk2 and 5D before that - and he found the 5D's low light focusing to be poor. I used a 5D along side a 30D and didn't see much difference in focus ablities between the two.

The time's i've tried a few shots with a 1Dn mk2 i've noticed it's fast to focus and I feel the 40D is about as fast. The all-cross sensor bit on the 40D is fantastic in low light - I had no issues at all with catching focus. On the 30D i'd had issues now and then and gave up trying to use teh 70-200 at weddings. I will try it at my next wedding, but that's 3 weeks out at htis point.

As to the fewer focus points in particular...I use specific points and not all points (the only options on a 20/30/40 body). If you use one pont focus points then you'll have no problems, BUT if you have 'areas of multiple points' set up for focus as your usual routine you'll have to adjust a bit.
