Canon: No more fast 100% Viewing

I have been using EOS Viewer Utility to view my images at full size, to check sharpness, but EVU has now been discontinued by Canon with the 30D package. The replacement Zoombrowser has to 'Save' (convert, it takes 13 seconds) each image, before it can be viewed at 100%. BreezeBrowser also has to convert to High Quality (10 seconds). EOS Viever Utility displayed the image, in a separate window with selectable 25-50-100-200 magnification, almost instantly.

Does anyone know if quick viewing is actually available, deep down in the menus, on the new Zoombrowser? I have not been able to find a way to repeat the fast EVU display.

I use BreezeBrowser for Raw conversion of both my 1DM2 and 30D files. If Canon's software cannot do a fast 100% view, then none of their 30D packaged software is really of any use to me.

Thanks in advance,

Latafat Correa

Re: Canon: No more fast 100% Viewing

Raw|Shooter Premium (and probably Essentials as well, which is free) has a faster 100% preview, especially when using the right-click magnifier. However, when I want to look at the full size images, I usually just batch output using BreezeBrowser(Pro), then come back to look at them after allowing time for the conversion.

Re: Canon: No more fast 100% Viewing

Lat:

I would suggest that you try DPP 2.1 for this purpose. Navigate to a folder of images you wish to check, select all, go to the Edit Image Window, and click on the 100% magnification icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen. You can use keyboard shortcuts to scroll from image to image at the same magnification. There will be a short delay before the 100% view is shown at maximum clarity, and the length of the delay will vary depending on the size of the file and the speeed of your computer. But even with 1Ds Mark II images, we're talking a maximum of 1 second or so, certainly nowhere near a 13 second delay.

FWIW, I compared EVU 1.2.1 to DPP 2.1 in this context and found that DPP was much faster in terms of displaying the full image at 100% magnification.

Thanks a million, Chuck. I just had a quick try and it works well, suits my needs fine; it's going to save me a lot of time editing images.

All my best,

Re: Canon: No more fast 100% Viewing

Hello Chuck;
I am finding that my 1DSMKII images take quite a bit longer to view at full resolution in either "fit to view", 50%, or at 100%. I would say that it takes about 30 seconds. This is with the latest DPP on a Mac G3. On my Mac G4 it takes a little less time but not by much. Am I missing anything anywhere else do you think. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Steve:

Have I already addressed the issue you're raising here in another thread on remote shooting? If not, please let me know. Thanks!

Yes Chuck, we have discussed this in the 1DSMKII folder. I guess since that is the camera I am using more than my Rebel, we should keep further discussion there. Thanks again for your help.
