10D folder question

I reformatted my card. Took 72 images. and came up with two folders. One had 65 and the other rest. I thought the 10D could get the first 100 in one folder? thanks!

Re: 10D folder question

It could if the first one was # XX01!
You obviously had the numbering set to continuous, in which case, it picks up from the last
image shot before formatting and goes through whatever hundred you're on, then creates a new folder
for the next hundred.

Re: 10D folder question

Ah, thanks so much Charles. Was scratching my head on that one.

My Canon rep explained to my that my 1DS does not have to have the annoying multiple folders thing because it's Pro model, but I don't get that. Is "not" , having the annoying folders take some great technology only Pro series can handle?

Re: 10D folder question

Idunno! I actually thought all Canons had the same folder structure.
My first digicam was a Canon/Kodak DCS1 (it used the Kodak software and not all these folders) and since I have only had 2-D30s, 2-D60s, 2-10Ds, and one 20D. I had a 1D for a week and thought it had the same routine. I haven't had "s" anything.

If you need to reset the folders to 100 and the first image to 001, when you format in the camera,
have the numbering set to "Auto Reset" instead of "continuous."

But IIRC, the next time you set it to Continuous it will pick up with the highest number it had previously reached. And again, IIRC, this number is derived from each card, not the body.Although I have never done it, it is my understanding that you can get the whole shebang back to 0 by formatting the cards in a computer; may need to be a true, not quick, format though.

This folder structure can be a PITA. I've sometimes had 3 folders on a card from being in two different cameras. Leads to multiple downloads if done manually.

One of Downloader Pro's strengths is that is sees past this folder structure and can download all files on a card at once.

Re: 10D folder question

thanks Charles:
Yes with 1DS, you shoot 800 images, they are all on one folder.

So if don't shoot continuous , they everything would be in one folder? that could work for 10D in which shoots don't spill over to more than one card.

What is the "downloader Pro" for Mac.? Right now I just drag and drop from card reader to folder on HD.

That's good to know.

No, if you're asking me about the 10D, you'll still have the folders, 100 images max each, whether you shoot continuous or auto reset.

A nifty $30 utility by Chirs Breeze of Breezebrowser fame:
