But to clarify a bit on the folder issue. Each folder won't hold 100 files. Instead every time the counter hits an even hundred it'll create a new folder. That is if your counter is on 899, the first folder will only have 2 files in it, #899, #900. It will create a new folder for #901-1000.
Hope this helps, and BTW, RTM!

Thanks guys. Geez I gotta order one of those manuals -- just kidding.
I'm so used to using an incident meter with manual, anyway, I should just ignore that if I'm using an incident meter. New thing to get used to!
Now on the folders:
This was only a 50 images shoot, so Will must be correct. I usually shoot with a 1ds, and have the 10-D for back up. But every now and then I shoot with the 10-D so I'm not rusty with it, as today shows I am.
But I've never seen multiple folders with the 1ds. I think I've shot at max maybe 400-500 on 1ds and it's all in one folder. Is this some "pro" Canon feature or something? With the 10-D , if you have a 500 images shoot, you must have 5 folders? (not bad mouthing the 10D, awesome camera!-- if it was full frame I might sell 1ds!)

My 1D doesn't do this, the 10D does. Using Breezesys Downloader Pro to copy data off your CF cards is a good way to rid yourself of this irritation because it removes the directories on-the-fly as the files are copied to your selected target directory. There are at least a dozen other good reasons to use DL pro but this is a great feature.

The 10D will upload all files without concern for the folder subdivisions if you use the WIA drivers under XP and set up the Camera and Scanner Wizard to copy the images through the USB cable whenever the camera is plugged-in. It can take a little while to finish, but it is quite convenient and avoids the need for 3rd party software.
The 20D will do this as well if you set it to PTP mode.
USB is perhaps not the way you'd rather copy your images, but I thought I would mention it.

Martin:
is that windows only? I'm on mac -- which I think disqualifies me from Noel suggestions I think.
but what I do now, it put card in a cf FW card reader, then drag the folder to desktop. I prefer all images in one folder if possible. Is that what the 1d series does by default as opposed to 10D?
