Unable to update firmware...help!

I am attempting to update the firmware for my Canon 10D but the "communications" setting doesn't appear in the menu. I called Canon CS and the could only advise me to send it in. My current version is 1.0.0 and I was trying to upgrade to 2.0.1. The manual I have doesn't list the "communications" setting as an option either. I've had the camera for a little over a year and a half. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bob

There is a set of instructions on the top page of the firmware download that gives the specific instructions on how to install the firmware. You must printout the instructions and follow them EXACTLY. Its a piece of cake if you follow the instructions.

Thanks Paul, I have followed all of the instructions, but I still don't have the "communications" field in the menu. After downloading the update to a CF card the camera doesn't recognize it. So why don't I have the communcations field in the menu? I have reset the functions and gone to default, but nothing! Thanks again for the recommendations,Bob

You will NOT have a communications option in the menu as that was added in firmware 2.0.0 on the 10D. The comms is already the equivalent of 'NORMAL' and that step is not a required the additional warning in the instructions only applies if you have 2.0.0 firmware.

Assuming you have a CF card with only the '10D00201.fir' file on it ie unpacked from the download (zipped file). Insert the card in the camera switch on and follow as per the instructions to update, the main thing is a fully charged battery and don't touch any buttons once it starts.

PS: The '10D00201.fir' file must be in the root directory on the CF card for the update to be recognised.
