| Three Choices, Actually The implication here is that, for some types of shooting (e.g., birding or wildlife) "you can never get a long enough lens", meaning that the focal length is maxed out and the subject is still too small in the frame. The ways to mitigate this issue are:
[*]Buy a longer lens. This can cost a lot of money.[*]Buy a teleconverter. This can cost a little money and a little quality.[*]Upsample in software. This can cost time and a little money.
One thing I've found myself doing, given too few millimeters, is centering the subject, assuming I can crop later. As I use the center focus point, this usually works out well.
