Try opening the CF door during a writing session (20D with an attached Battery Grip) and see where that gets you. Fact is with either film or digital, accidents happens. I can count on one hand the number of times I've messed up with film in such a manner and most (if not all of the times) it was self human error which was to blame. What really upsets me about digital is that you could do EVERYTHING right and still mess up. It's Murphy's Law, squared.

Good Point, but in either case you're gonna have some ruined images. But.......I'm willing to bet that lady didn't have anything salvagable on the roll of film, with the CF card you'll only loose the images that were still in tbe buffer. No consolation if those were the important ones, but I guess its a matter of degrees. Better to have some images than none at all. Not sure I agree that digital is just a train wreck waiting for a loose rail though......I've not had any disasters so far (....knocking solidly on my wooden head........) I watched a salesman at a camera store once open the back of a camera a customer was considering trading in, and he seemed quite surprised when it had film in it and the customer was upset.
I guess they both weren't thinking, why would you bring a potential trade-in with film still in it and if you're an experienced camera salesman why wouldn't you either ask or check about the camera being loaded before opening it up? I found it mildly amusing, but wisely decided to keep that to myself. White Balance so easy, even our 5 year old can do it.- Melissa Strickland |
