10 D shutter life expectancy numbers?

I have read that the 10 D has a life expectancy for the shutter of 25,000 activations or releases over on DP review's forums. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is then I need to start looking for a back up body because I will hit that mark in the middle of my busiest part of the year, mid summer. If that is true the camera will be covered under warranty, but I can not afford the down time and will need a back up body. Can anyone tell me if the numbers quoted are true.

Thanks Mike

The first shutter on my D30 managed 40,000 without failure. Not sure if it's the same unit though.

Re: 10 D shutter life expectancy numbers?

Who knows! When we shot not quite pro film cameras--such as the 630--10S--and A2s--shutter life was measured in years. No one shooting these bodies hurt them much. In South Florida, shutters died from aged grease. We cycle digital shutters a lot more. The price of a shutter replacement is only about the cost of processing and buying 30-40 rolls of film.

My 10D's shutter started getting sick at 25,000 or so, and completely died at 32,000. It was still under warranty, and I got it replaced in one week.

By the way, my D60 is at 27,000 but no problems so far.

Re: 10 D shutter life expectancy numbers?

One question, how to know the number of shutter is released? does the 10D have a counter to record it?

I think, it is a important information to me. because I shot time-lapse most. hundreds photos per each shot is so often.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks Steve!

well... I counted my 1 month old 10D. It's already take around 6,000 shots. is that too heavy duty to it ? or not recommend to use this kind of DSLR for time-lapse? however, for me, time-lapse and panorama is the only reason to buy this camera.
