10d & 100-400L lens rotational movement?

Hello,

I recently got the 10d and 100-400L lens but since day one
I have noticed that there is a tiny amount of rotational movement at the join
of the lens to the body. (When Im holding the camera and supporting the lens I feel the lens twist slightly.)
I would guess its about 0.5mm to 1mm of movement so its a small amount.
But is this normal?

Thanks
Pete.

Yep! Nothing to worry about. Mine does that and I asked the same question a coupla years ago, and the question pops up every now and then. The answer is always the same.

Mine moves and so does my 24-70 2.8/L and my 70-200 2.8/L. Doesn't seem to change the pictures though.

Re: 10d & 100-400L lens rotational movement?

I previously posted a response that said my lens also rotates and no problem. I had just received my equipment and was taking handheld day shots. Now, I find when I mount the lens on a tripod and try to take shots without a cable release, the camera rotates and the shot is ruined. Any ideas on how to deal with this?

Unintended camera movement around the lens

Sam,

Yeah, bummer!

I hate to sound flippant, but the classical solution to this is to use a cable release!

Another thnig to do is to take up the rotational "play" between the lens and the camera, in the direction that pushing on the shutter release does, before you finalize "roll" orientation and take the shot. (It's like pre-shrinking jeans!)

(I assume that the "play" isn't "loose".)

Best regards,

Doug

The shutter release timer also works well...
