Re: 300D - \"extra\" 1536 x 1024 px image [bump]

Just a bump so I can put this in my tracked threads (forgot to do so at the outset!).

\"Extra\" embedded JPEG image

Hi, Chuck,

Excuse the bump, but has there been any progress on this?

Thanks so much.

Best regards,

Doug

Re: \"Extra\" embedded JPEG image

Hi, Doug:

Canon Inc. says that the embedded image is primarily intended to speed up the display on the camera during review, especially when using the magnified playback feature. Sorry, that's as much as they were willing to say.

Re: \"Extra\" embedded JPEG image

Just a comment on that purpose, I'd rather have the extra space for additional pictures. I'm always running out of CF space but seldom use the preview/zoom feature.

Think it may be worth considering using the full size jpg for zoom, and not embedding a 2nd of medium size.

Re: \"Extra\" embedded JPEG image

Chuck,

Is there correspondingly an "extra" JPEG image in the CRW file of a 300D compared to the CRW file for a 10D?

Best regards,

Doug

Re: \"Extra\" embedded JPEG image

Hi, Doug:

Both cameras, 10D and the Digital Rebel, always embed a JPEG inside their RAW files. With the 10D, the size and compression of the embedded JPEG is adjustable by the user via Custom Function control. With the Digital Rebel, the size and compression of the embedded JPEG is fixed at "Medium/Fine," in other words 2048 x 1360 pixels with relatively low compression. There is no extra 1536 x 1024 JPEG in addition to the embedded JPEG mentioned above.
