You might find the turnaround time and service loaner helpful. I don't qualify for CPS membership, so I am unsure if the information contained in the link remains accurate etc.
Because your camera is new and (relatively unused?), I hope it is still covered by warranty. I *believe* that the Canon service center is in Irvine. The few times I needed my equipment serviced, I went in person to our Canon repair center in Calgary. I found the people receptive and easy to deal with. You might wish to speak to the Canon folks in person.
