Canon EOS 7D - Why Most Of The Canon 7D Specs Are Wrong

Speculation is rampant online about the Canon 7D, which it seems we may see in September. A lot of the specs being cited are just plain wrong, and here's why.

Actually, I appreciate this posting, it's relatively technically informed speculation. I think if the 7D comes in along the lines indicated in that Art of Image blog then it's the camera I have been waiting for to replace my 5D.

The specifications are now looking much more like it's aimed at creating a new tier just above the D300x

Slightly updated:-

The EF-S 15-85USM lens looks interesting too

Those specs are interesting John, but they sound like a 60D to me, not a 7D. :-)

Canon needs the 7D to be a new beast. Nikon's D700 / D3 and the coming D700X / D3X give them perfect full frame placement in the DSLR market. Canon needs a DSLR that fits below the 5D MkII, and I think that's where they're going with the 7D.

Canon also desperately needs to come out with a new ROCK SOLID, BUTT KICKIN' auto focus system to prove that they can do auto focus right. The 7D needs to have this new auto focus system. The 1D MkIV needs to have it, and the 1Ds MkIV needs to have it. If Canon fails on this one, a lot of Canon shooters that are holding on to give Canon a chance to make things right are going to be switching to Nikon in record numbers.
