Canon Please Change 1 series Mark III Focus Selection

hi, i'm a canon enthusiast and pro for a few years now. Eos 1 series user since 2002. Currently use a 1d Mark III. Canon, you have a beautiful array of 45 AF points in that huge eclipse in the middle of my focusing screen that rock in auto AF point selection for tracking subjects.

But why was AF point manual selection limited to 19 on the Mark III cameras? Well I kindof know the answer since some are assist points but hasnt there always been assist points...(earlier on they were called the single line AF sensors vs the cross ones) During both of my recent shoots I really really wanted to move just off of a AF point and couldnt.

Several of my fellow friends who also shoot Canon would like to see all 45 point manual selection come back, siting it is a pain as is. Please chime in if you would like to see it changed too.

"Chime"

Coming from the 1D II where I could select them all (although without the multidirectional controller), the 1D III did seem a little strange at first.

Ideally, as time goes on, I'd like all the points to be like the centre one in their capabilities so I don't have to worry - I often want to shoot with a slightly off centre point, but don't for that reason.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions! I'll be happy to pass them along to Canon's R&D group.

I too think that being able to select a single AF point with the multi-controller is a winner.
But, the selectable points are too far apart. I too would like to be able to select 1 of any 45.
Quite often with a specific framing & servo mode I can't get the AF point on the correct person's face. I can't lock focus and re-frame as I can if I'm on one shot.

Re: Canon Please Change 1 series Mark III Focus Selection

perhaps there is a happy medium, something like 22-27 points user selectable cuz sometimes 45 is too many...i know thats coming from the guy who started the thread wanting all of them back but i realize that 45 points via the MC would be really hard...it took a while to get used to it with the current 19.

I was surprised when I first used the MkIII, that I couldn't use all the AF points. I thought there would be some CF setting that allowed it; as I can use them all on the MkII.
