Can 270EX flash trigger other EX flashes?

I doubt it. I even doubt it can be used as a slave in the Canon wireless flash system.

The specs for the unit on the Canon site don't mention either (not that this is necessarily the whole story).

In a word, no. Like Speedlite 220EX before it, the 270EX is not a part of the E-TTL wireless system.

But I think you are right about your original premise. Looks like a nice pocket flash for the 5D. I may get one. (I already have 3 550s)
