I'm not sure what the problem is, but I cannot find any spare OEM batteries at the major suppliers. Has anyone had good experience with third party batteries? I found one supplier online that has a charger+battery for $60. The fear, of course, is that if it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is.

Canon is ramping up the production of LP-E6 battery packs for the EOS 5D Mark II. New inventory is coming into the market slowly at this point, but backorders should begin to ease up over the next 6 to 8 weeks.
Thanks for the information, Chuck. Any suggestions of where they will show up first? The battery has good capacity, but for extended shooting on location, I'm in a bit of a bind now.

These batteries are really, really hard to find! Chargers too. I got my 5DM11 in December, took a few weeks to find one spare battery (at a pretty high price for a battery). In January, I found a reseller that said they had both a battery and charger. Still waiting on Canon. That said, I'm really impressed at how long the newer batteries last. Far superior to my 5D. But having just one battery is kind of scary. As good as the camera is, its a nothing more than a door stop if the battery dies. At least now I have two.
Having to wait another 6-8 weeks on Canon isn't IMHO a good indication that Canon had its act together here. Got the camera middle of December, shortage of batteries 4+ months later?

Hi, Allen:
There's no easy way to tell which dealers will receive LP-E6 battery shipments or when. The best I can say is that Canon USA will attempt to fill the backorders in the order they were received. The distribution should be reasonably widespread based on the number of SLR dealers who've ordered.
One possible workaround for the time being is to use the optional Battery Grip BG-E6 with rechargeable NiMH or lithium AA batteries.
I hadn't realized Canon updated the battery from the BP-511s they use to run the 1.6x cameras. Does the 5DII really require so much more power that this was necessary? I suppose for movie capture the body may well be much more power hungry.
Does the 5DII battery load into the right hand grip as does the BP-511? Is it roughly the same size?
