I disagree with you when you say that Ken Rockwell is "belittling" the issue. He is being Ken Rockwell and I think that he is being VERY objective in his assessment of the situation. A differewnt style of communications from yours does not make his assessment "belittling".

The "White Paper" that Canon just released describes the new sensor in detail:

"The EOS 5D Mark II’s sensor is designed and manufactured entirely by
Canon using its state-of-the-art CMOS semiconductor fabrication and
microlens-forming process. It includes a protective, double low-pass filter design that separates the subject image into horizontal and vertical directions,a phase plate, and an infrared-absorption glass. (The front side of the first low pass filter also includes a fluorine coating to help reduce dust adhesion and a dichroic mirror vapor deposition on the rear surface to reflect infrared rays.)"

Perhaps one of the new coatings on the sensor or the new circuitry to increase ISO sensitivity causes this phenomenon.

Drew means his other post. They get kinda lost with all the spam posts these days.

Canon has posted that a fix will be issued shortly BUT it does not go down well that Canon has had a series of problems with new releases on their 'pro' cameras. It makes you want to not buy anything until the corrected batch comes out. I doubt this problem would have been noticed as quickly if it weren't for Christmas light season.

Fair enough. His assessment was somewhat amusing and true in its own right, thus the link.

But I do think the issue has a little more merit than he seems to think. Unfortunately, this all feels all too familiar. Serial numbers flying about and all kinds of wild theories about what could be causing the focus...ooopppsss. Sorry, wrong thread.
