Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

I just hung a Canon 28-300 IS on the 1DS III, now I don't have to use my dumbell weights anymore. (lol)

Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

I know what that feels like, my 28-300 is on my 1D2 all the time.

I find that the extra size of the 1D series helps balance lenses like 70-200 when handheld. So much so that I was one of the first to get a grip for the 5D when that came out and I have the 5D2 grip on order already. Just feels better.

That, plus the portrait-mode shutter button makes it far easier to hold and use (for me anyway) for portrait shots, of which I do a lot with the 5D range.

Super stuff.

Although the ISO 25,600 images of the test card look absoltely apalling, on a real picture it's less of a problem.

Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

Canon has just released the white papers for both these cameras and list the sensor comparison as:

EOS 5D Mark II’s new 21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor: The advanced single-plate CMOS sensor in the EOS 5D Mark II achieves the highest performance of any sensor in the Canon DSLR lineup. It shares many traits with the CMOS sensor found in the flagship EOS-1Ds Mark III, including its 36mm x 24mm (35mm format) size, approximately 21.1 effective megapixels with 6.4μm pixel pitch, a 4-channel data readout, and low-pass filter design. However, this second-generation sensor offers increased sensitivity and improved noise reduction circuitry that enables standard ISO’s ranging from 100 to 6400 and expanded ISO ranges from 50 to 25,600.
