Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

I agree totally with Perry - the 9 points are a bit of a pain. I also agree about the "Snappyness" factor. My 1D2 and 1D3 feel so much better compared to the relatively slow "ker-klunk" of the 5D / 5D2.

Thanks Perry,

You detailed comparison of the pros and cons of both models is very much appreciated.

Thanks for the asessment. I just sold my 20D, 40D, and 5D and was considering adding a 5DII to complement my 1DSIII, but I think I will now wait and see what the 1DSIV brings to the table. (Whenever it appears.)
I think I lucked out. I got a decent price for the batch including all of my consumer lenses. So now I'm an all "L" man.

Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

I guess I'm a bit of a wimp, but man, the smaller size of the "non permanent portrait grip" cameras really makes the difference for me. Isn't the 1Ds rather heavier (i.e., a LOT heavier) than the 5D?

I know for some kinds of shooting this doesn't make much difference. All my work is handheld, so it does to me.

Canon is really tempting me with that 5DII.

Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

When size matters.....

5D Mark II
30 oz
6 x 4.5 x 3 inches

1Ds Mark III
48.9 oz
5.9 x 6.3 x 3.2 inches

Availability seems to be a real problem.

Re: 5D Mark II vs 1Ds Mark III

Thanks Martin - that's a fantastic review of the different Canon cameras. The roll-overs to see direct comparisons of high ISO is EXACTLY what I love. Now, can they do this will Canon/Nikon comparisons?

Drew, please have a look at this site. As a pro, super concerned about where to spend the little money I have on new equipment - this is the kind of comparisons I value highly. Just show me the images and let them speak for themselves.
