Fisheye

Is there a plug in that could easily and accurately get rid of the fisheye distortion?

Re: Fisheye

Amen to that.

You have to be aware of what is left, and plan accordingly when you take the shot. Sometimes I find that I want to leave the distortion in place, because I lose too much of the image when I correct it.

I highly recommend PTLens.

Re: Fisheye

the fish eye looks is a bit out of favor now, so would this, make my image look like it was shot with a true 14 or 15 non distorted lens?

Re: Fisheye

It never quite makes it that good. The best you can hope for is that the central part of the image is acceptably usable. As far as being out of favor, there are some stories which only a fisheye can tell. (See attached photo. This image was published in a SeaPlane Splash-In catalog.)

When I shot Nikon, I had a 16mm fisheye that I used with the D2X, and it was as though I had a 24mm with slight distortion. I never quite figured out a profile for PTLens that would take ALL the distortion out, so I learned to live with it. When the DX fisheye came out, I got one, and used it quite a bit.

I did a comparison of the Nikon 14mm and 16mm fisheye on the D2X. They offered almost the same coverage, with the fisheye having a little bit of distortion.

If you really need a rectilinear lens, then only a rectilinear lens will do. In the meantime, there's a lot of fun to be had with a fisheye.
