Re: 5D Shooters Rejoice!

Still no 16 bit A/Ds. I'll gladly trade the video for the 16 bits.

Re: 5D Shooters Rejoice!

While the whole package looks like a great value, I say too many pixels. I would have much preferred they leave the camera at 12 megapixels and then the pixel size could have increased over the Mk1, due to the reduced micro lens gap. If Canon could use larger pixels to squeeze even better low light performance out of the camera, that would be a huge win to me. Meanwhile, I seldom have use for the extra 8 megapixels of data on the Mk II and the Mk II is going to have the same diffraction limitation problems as the 1Ds Mk III, which will actually make the camera harder to use and less flexible at a fundamental level.

It does sound good on paper. Each new model, with its groundbreaking new features (much higher ISO in this case) just makes the digital photography landscape better and better for all of us.

Frankly, at this point, now seeing the specs I'd definitely choose the 50D over the 5D II, but that's me.

It's a great time to be into digital photography.

P.S., if they're going to build in a microphone, how about allowing capture of a few seconds of sound with each still? Enable the mic, for example, at the point where the shutter button is half pressed (and metering/focus starts) then stop it when the shot is taken or just after.

It is a great time to be into digital photography.

Each of us has their own needs. To me this is a what I have been needing since the introduction of DSLR's ! (I have owned a DSLR since 2002)

My biggest gripe is that the standard three f/2.8 zooms most of us own don't have the right coverage for the crop sensor.

Last spring, I bought the Rebel Xsi (450) to tide me over until this camera was released. I will still use the Rebel for some things. But I will now have a great replacement/upgrade to my old film SLR's

In Real Estate it is LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION.

In photography it is LENS, LENS, LENS.

My 24-70mm f/ 2.8 L will return as my workhorse!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 5D Shooters Rejoice!

Specs show water resistance of 10 mm of rain in 3 minutes.

That's weather resistance enough for me. Ya, I know I can't take it to the South Pole or Mt. Everest, but I'm not going there any day soon. For a soggy wedding day or soccer tournament, I think this will be good enough to keep most of us happy.

Well, now what are we going to spend our time fantasizing about???????????????

Don't just look at numbers. Make sure you understand what they mean. 16 bits A/D makes no sense if the dynamic range of the sensor isn't higher than 14 bits can capture as well. With this sensor, increasing the A/D from 14 bits to 16 bits would only be a marketing ploy.
