Early review of the EOS 1Ds Mark III

I found this very early review very informative. The author did a pretty thorough job in a short time. He included some excellent real world photos to show what the camera can do. He's also provided at least two downloadable CR2 files to experiment with.

Phil,
Thanks for doing a truly solid job of providing a wide ranging review of the 1DS MkIII. By doing some of the work for the rest of us, you have done us a real service. I was especially appreciative of the sections comparing the 1DS MkII's results with the MkIII's. A best of class camera improved!!

Thanks Phil, I was particularly glad to see the detail in the leaf cropped out of the tree shot. I shoot a lot of agriculture and leaf detail is an issue!

Folks,

I'm certain that Phil Holland, the author of this excellent review would like to hear from you directly. I'm not sure if he's a member here, but his email address is at the very bottom of his fine review.

Re: Early review of the EOS 1Ds Mark III

I got my 1DsMKIII a couple of days ago and it is pretty much as I had expected, a visual duplicate of the 1DMKIII which I already had.

The weather here has been totally crappy as of late but did take it out for a short run. I used Lightroom to process the RAW files and it handled everything fine. The few shots that I did take were with the 24-70 f/2.8 and did a broad range of different stops. All were bang on for sharpness on the focus points.

I am glad that I had upgraded my computer systems. Files are pretty big with CR2 files being 24-29 MB in size and the 8bit TIFF coming out at 63MB

Are they the same size with the same look and feel? They are obviously different cameras, but I am curious in which respects they differ.

Re: Early review of the EOS 1Ds Mark III

I'm going for my first serious outing with them tomorrow. I am taking the 1DMKIII and the 1DsMKIII. From the outward appearance they are the same camera. The menuing system is the same though I have not checked the two side by side to see if all the choices are identical (nor will I).
