Thanks God for Nikon

As a long term canon user, (I moved to the Canon T90 from the Pentax LX)
and had the Kodak 520 moved to the D30 and now have the 1dMk11 I say thank god that Nikon have brought out the D3 .Too long canon have been
top dog in the pro DSLR market and it shows in their attitude toward their customers and the pricing of their cameras. After reading the reviews of the
D3 Nikon seem to be beating Canon at where they were the leaders, "image noise" and give us a full frame camera for nearly half the price of the 1Ds Mk111. Competition from a camera as good if not better and almost half the price should benefit us Canon users

Um...

Did you miss the release of the 5D or something?

Competition is good though. I welcome Nikon to the fullframe DSLR market, they were a long time coming.

Mike.

Re: Thanks God for Nikon

Um .... I am a fairly new mwmber here BUT can we move beyond the Canon/Nikon branding routine? As we all know, both have their strengths and weaknesses but they provide us with the most advanced tools that allow us to get our jobs done as photographers. Don't get me wrong - giving constructive feedback to equipment manufacturers is good and necessary. However, I think that we, in this forum, sometimes get hung up on this topic and do not spend enough time talking about how we can more effectively use these tools in our day-to-day jobs. Thanks for allowing me to butt in.

Ron,
I fully agree with you on the Canon v Nikon branding routine, but as a sports / event photographer high ISO low noise is of major importance to me.No matter how good a photographer you are you cannot get around the fact that high ISO increases noise and the better the noise to ISO ratio
for sports photographers the better the camera

There is no question competition is good for us!

Interesting on a planet with billions of people that there are only 2 really big names in camera manufacture. Maybe the market doesn't want too many choices.

Re: Thanks God for Nikon

Rob,

I understand completely. I have attempted to do some family sports photography with our children growing up and now our grand children. It is definitely one of the more challenging arenas within photography. Since I do not do much of it, I still use my Canon FD 500mm f4.5 and 300mm f2.8 lenses with the Canon FD-EOS converter. Going back to manual focus is not easy but it's challenging.

Re: Thanks God for Nikon

Funny, I've read 3 major threads in the last 24 hrs on people moving to Canon because they are fed up with Nikon service - or lack of it.

I'm waiting for the REAL reviews of the D3 & D300. I have yet to see any of these from real critics. After I see those reviews I may buy a D300 if it's that much better than my 40D. I am not loyal to anyone but my customer.

I do agree, without good competition, the prices would be even higher and the technology would be way behind.
