Canon 200mm F1,8

It's seems to be a very good lens but why is Canon not selling this lens anymore?

Canon is so tight-lipped I wonder whether anyone will be able to give you a definitive answer.

I do know that the optics in the thing are absolutely huge, and that's got to cost money to make at the legendary quality level the lens is known for. Perhaps they just weren't making any money on it.

There are a lot of rumors around as to why it's no longer made. The most believable of them I've seen (read as: the one I believe) is that it contained glass with lead which caused environmental problems during production so it was discontinued.

It is pretty widely expected that they will announce a new version in the not so distant future. I hope so.

I love the lens....too bad they don't make them anymore...can't get parts. With an 1.4 extender it still a very fast 300mm f/2.8. I have the discontinued 50mm f1.0 too....a bit slow on the focus, but able to shoot by candlelight. You may find both on ebay. That's where I found mine years ago.
