I also had the same questions when I switched over to Canon over the last six months. Since then, I have rediscovered this forum, as well as the Canon side of Juergen Specht's forum. If you look around the forums, many of them have Canon versions. One thing that is lacking is a Canon version of nikonlinks.com. I was almost tempted to start one myself, but thought better of it.

Here are some links:

IDscussion=Juergen Specht's List Manager - Login

Canon Digital SLR Camera and Lens Reviews at The-Digital-Picture.com

Digital Cameras, Digital Camera Reviews - The Imaging Resource!

These links will serve to broaden your experience, but you'll have a hard time finding a site that is as comprehensive as the site we are now on.

So are you glad you went with Canon? Is the Canon 30D a PRO camera? I think not. But my camera is not one either. If I switch then Canon or Nikon will come out with something I would really like to have. I think I might stay with Nikon and try to get a Nikon D200.

Actually, I think that is an excellent idea. I think you should stick with your Nikon.

Define "PRO camera".

You sound more worried about what people are going to say or think when they see you shooting than about your results.

Hate to say this, but the 5D doesn't look any different than a 30D unless one studies it up close.

If that's the case you should consider getting a camera that's got as big a body as possible (e.g., the Canon 1-series, or maybe one of the huge Kodaks) so no one can mistake that you're a PRO. And only get white lenses. Don't settle for anything less than the top of the line.

Or... Hang a couple of 30Ds around your neck with different lenses on them, then you'll really look like a PRO.

Yes, I am glad I went with Canon.

The 5D isn't considered a pro camera, either. The D200 is about the same, i.e. a pro-sumer camera. But both of them are fine cameras for the money, and you won't go wrong with either one. I think Noel was suggesting another option when he mentioned the 30D.

Re: Canon 5D

I have looked at the Canon line of cameras and the Nikon line of cameras allot! At one time I owned two Mamiya 6x7 and two 645s. I'm trying to find out what and how these cameras act. Like exposure and their flash system. I'm looking at the Canon 5d because I think it might do everything I want it to do. I don't know who you are but I have been in this for 50 years. As I said before I tried Canon EOS 620 when it first came out and had problems with the lenses. I went to Nikon after about two months and never had anything go wrong withe Nikon stuff. And I know what is on or not on a Canon 5D.

Re: Canon 5D

I was a long time Nikon user, at least 30 years. I had 4 bodies and 14 lenses last fall, and I decided to sell them all and change to Canon because of a series of poor service from Nikon. I had no complaints about the Nikon equipment, but the last 7 years I had a series of disappointing service experiences with Nikon service. Since I changed over, the equipment and service with Canon has been great, so I'm glad I switched. I'm so glad that I don't ever have to deal with Nikon USA service again. Nobody's equipment is that good that they can crap on their loyal customers.
