1D MkII hot shoe

Hot shoe is getting a bit loose, anyone else had this problem? Is it a "Canon only" fix, or simple enough for a local repair??
Thanks!

sorry i can't recall exactly where i saw it, but i came across a DIY site for a loose canon hot shoe. Don't know that i'd recommend the process for everyone, but it seemed reasonably straightforward. In other words, a good camera repair shop shouldn't have any difficulty. There seems to be a poetic resonance to loose canon, doesn't there?

PS: well, a quick check of Google turned up the site (there is more than one), but it focused on 20D and mentions 5D. Try: How to Repair a Canon 20D flash hot shoe - by Conrad Erb, Philadelphia Wedding Pho tographer

hope this helps if you haven't already solved the issue

Both my Mark II's were doing this, though only one was getting past the 'minor annoyance' stage. I sent both cameras in for their usual yearly overhaul, and Canon fixed the hot shoes (along with everything else -- they came back looking like new). If you are a CPS member, this is a quick and fairly inexpensive service.

This has been a known problem for some time, . Even on the ID mk 1 I had to send mine back twice for this problem

I did mine myself after trawling the web for info. It's really easy to do.

All you need to is slide a thin blade under the spring type metal and lift it, slide it backwards and it will expose a couple of screws. Tighten these and hey presto, all done.

I'm glad you reminded me about that. I saw it diagrammed somewhere one time but forgot what to do. Yeah! Simple!
