RePosted. Please Read! Clarified Name and Avatar Policy

Just a reminder that we are not an anonymous forum community. We are a professional photography community.

As such, it has been, and will continue to be the policy that we use our real names in our profile.

Please make sure that your display name is in line with our clarified policy.

Display names should be one of the following:
1) Your real name
2) Your company name
3) Some easily identifiable portion of your real name
4) Your real nickname

How to edit your display name:Email me or pm me your edited display name and I will change it for you. Email to: drew@prophotohome.com

Clarified Avatar Policy:

The logical continuation of this policy is that all avatars should also be your photograph. The avatar is meant to help people get to know one another, not to show off your latest graphic design. Although, I must admit that some of them are quite cool. Please be as creative as you want in your signature line. Put your cool avatar that you use on all the other forums in this space. There is a lot more room to express yourself there anyway.

In this forum, the avatar should reflect some recognizable semblance of a headshot of you. If you want to Photoshop out wrinkles, put a cool glow on it, etc., that is fine.

If you would prefer not to post a headshot you certainly do not have to do so.

After June 15th, 2006 the moderators and I will edit any profiles not following these policies. We will not provide individual members any advance notice of these changes.

How to upload an "avatar":

You can upload an "avatar" to your profile in your "user cp" section.

Simply click on the "edit avatar" tab in your "user cp" and then upload your avatar (80x80 max pixels, may be smaller) (.gif, .jpg, .png accepted)

Browse to your head shot image and upload it.

Thanks,
Drew

What is an avatar? What is "user cp?" I found the latter but not the former. In other words, help out new people by avoiding jargon.

In the user control panel you'll find "edit avatar" on the left side. Either link to an image or upload an avatar from your computer.

The word avatar isn't jargon. It goes all the way back to Sanskrit and referred to the incarnation of a god, usually in human or animal form. To qualify as jargon, a word has to be fairly restricted to a particular occupation or profession. Avatar is widely used in the literature and would hardly be classified as such. I'll grant you that the word may be unfamiliar to you, however. Here, it refers to the optional image under the username to the left side of the forum postings.

Re: RePosted. Please Read! Clarified Name and Avatar Policy

Hi Bob,

The "user cp" stands for user control panel and is located in the top right of the screen.

Once inside the "user control panel" if you look to the left hand side of the screen you will see a list of options. The fifth one down is "edit avatar." The avatar is the image displayed next to your username when you make a post. In this particular forum we have a policy that people use a real headshot of themselves, rather than a graphic. In other forums you may see avatars of all sizes and shapes. The avatar is entirely optional.

I have added your full name to your signature for you.

Thanks for joining. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
