Re: portrait vs. landscape

I've just looked at what I've been shooting today with the 5D and more than a third were in portrait orientation. No grip and that didn't bother me at all. I have the grip for the 20D but haven't used it for ages.

Re: portrait vs. landscape

the grip for the 20d is so unsexy, it hurts. i bought it, put it on for two days and removed it. unfortunately i was too busy at the time to return it, so it is still in my cupboard. i haven't seen the 5d on in flesh, is it any better? does it feel like a one-piece-camera or is it still this tweaky ad-on feeling? somehow the grip for the eos 1/n/v film camera was blending much better than all the digital one i have seen so far.

Re: portrait vs. landscape

I choose vertical or horizontal based on what seems to me like the best composition for the subject. Sometimes it seems clear to me that horizontal would suit my subject and my tastes best, like here:

Other times it seems clear to me that vertical would suit my subject and my tastes best, like here:

Rarely does it seem indifferent. So, the shape and ergonomics of my camera don't factor into this decision making process.

I tend to shoot more verticals than horizontals; I guess that's just how my vision and my aesthetic tastes work.

Re: portrait vs. landscape

I do about 90% portrait. Why ? Who knows - But I've set up my computer screens vertically too.
