Re: 5D, 1D M2N or another 20D?

I lost track of that problem. Didn't we decide it can be avoided by using the CF to turn off the focus assist?

I guess I need to go back to the other tread. But with that fix, I have a better idea which way to go. Thanks for all you help.

Re: 5D, 1D M2N or another 20D?

Spike, I shoot a lot of motorcycle racing, and I own a D60, 20D, 1D and 1D MkII. I can tell you from a no. of years experience, that while the mid-range bodies like the 20D and 5D are excellent all around cameras, they can't hold a candle to a 1-series body for photographing motorcycle racing. You definitely want a 1D MkII or MkII N.

Here's some links to some of my stuff taken with my 'ole 1D....

Re: 5D, 1D M2N or another 20D?

Stephen,

Those are great shots. There are road races in Texas but I have not tries to go that direction yet. Most of mine are flat trackers. I'm really focusing on night time shots as a driver. I have a very high sucess rate with my 20d during the day. Though I believe to 1D would do better.

Here is what I'm working with... Night short trackers

Stephen,

Great shots! We have road racing in Texas but I have not tried to go that direction yet. I have been working with flat trackers. About half of the races are at night. I'm using the night requirement as a driver for camera selection. Here is what I'm working with ... Night Short Trackers

Re: 5D, 1D M2N or another 20D?

Spike,

Those shots taken with your 20D turned out great. What are you using for flash fill?

I still think the 1D MkII would be your best bet, the AF on the 1-series is notably better than the 1.6X prosumer series bodies in low light. Like you, I mostly shoot 1 frame at a time, but the responsiveness of the 1D bodies can't be beat for sports.

Cheers,
Stephen.

Re: 5D, 1D M2N or another 20D?

I think your right. I going to add the 1D as the primary and move the 20D to backup. I use the 580ex for flash and have been very happy with it.
