I know this has probably been discussed before, but I am an architectural photographer who uses Nikon equipment, (film), and I am about to buy the Canon 5D because I am tired of waiting for Nikon to introduce a full frame sensor. I use my Nikon 28mm P.C. on almost 50% of my shots and it is very sharp, even at F/5.6. The few professionals that I have spoken with who own the Canon 24mm T.S. claim that it is not that sharp unless it is stopped down to F/11 or more. Since this lens is basically going to be my "normal" lens, I would like to know if it is really that soft? Any alternatives, like adapting the Nikon 28mm P.C. to a Canon mount?

Hello Frank,
you can get an adapter for your Nikon PC.
However,I use the 24-45 and 90TSE combo on my 1Ds2 and yes,the 24 is it's weakest link.
I also use a 35TS,Canon's first tilt shift lens(I had it converted to an EF mount)
That lens is very good as well.
Any questions,
please ask,
Regards,
Willem.

My friend in Amsterdam is an architectural photographer and adapted his Nikon 28PC to his 5D and loves it. Good sharpness also.
He got the Cameraquest Nikon to Canon EOS adapter.

It isn't that sharp wide open, especially when you shift it but I also notice the lens doesn't focus very well, in fact at times I usually just use the distance markings on the lens as opposed to focusing by eye ( or I focus to infinity and just bring it back a tad , that could be one reason why some people report this lens as not being very sharp. On the 5d it looked pretty sharp to me when shooting interiors. If you want you can post your email address and i can send you a sample shot with the lens.
It's not razor sharp though but pretty acceptable. Look at luminous landscape as well, there's a section there where MR compares the 24 1.4, 24 ts, 24-70 and 16-35 all at 24mm, the 24 ts put in a comparable showing.

Frank, if you want a great 24mm shift lens, get a used Olympus 24mm/f3.5. It is a optically a much better lens than the the Canon, though it doesn't tilt. You can find them on ebay, though they're between $1500 and $2400 (used!), depending on condition. As with all lenses, there are out-of-alignment versions, otherwise the lens is outstanding.
