I pretty much make a living with a Nikon 28 PC on my Canon 1Ds. It works great! I use the all-metal precision-machined and pricey Zork (Zoerk) adapter. Excellent. I also have the Novaflex adapter and use it on my Nikon 80mm where it works great, but for some reason it doesnt work on my 28 PC. There are other adapters like Cameraquest that have a very good reputation - I would try them first.
After the adapter, use your money for a used Canon 45 mm TSE (?) instead of the 24mm!!!
Merry Christmas!

I've had both the Canon and Olympus 24mm shift lenses, but found neither really impressive. The Olympus is without doubt superior, especially when shifted, but both are some distance from the sharpness you can expect with a really good 28mm or 35mm shift lens.
I'd really like to see a full frame Nikon 28mm PC shot on the 5D or 1Ds II with a view to a forthcoming test of lenses at this focal length. If anyone can mail me one at mark'at'16-9.net I'd be appreciative.
Thanks

Hi Frank,
I thought for one moment I was reading my own posting, I could have written the same word for word.
I use the 28pc and 35PC Nikkors on film at the moment like yourself.
I.ve just been editing some 100meg 16 bit scans from Velvia film, using the 28PC Nikkor and have noticed some strange things. Let me first say, I normally use this lens on a tripod at f8 or f11, fired on FM3A's using the delayed action timer which lifts the mirror first, then XX seconds later, trips the shutter, a super system, wish all cameras had this facility. I also tend to use maximum shift in a vertical composition. Focussing is always set to the hyperfocal markings on the lens as f8 and f11 are clearly marked.
Problems:
When fully shifted in vertical mode the top parts of my buildings are never as sharp as the middles or bottoms?
Some of the scans just edited are razor sharp and others only average and I can't think of any reason for this problem?
I too would like to put this lens on a Canon 5D body but am worried that this old lens may not be up to the full frame resolution the Canon needs.
Can anyone upload an image of a builing taken with this Nikkor on a full frame Canon body, preferably a RAW image if possible-
Many thanks
Michael

The only time I have ever had a sharpness problem with the Nikkor 28 mm P.C. is when I amusing a polarizing filter. Then, at full shift, the corners are softer than the center of the image. Did you take some with and some without a polarizer? Or any filter, for that matter.
Paul Chaps mentioned earlier that he makes a living shooting with the Nikon 28 P.C. on his 1Ds. Paul, can you upload any images shot with that combination? Or e-mail me at: frangphoto@cox.net.
Thanks,
Frank

I can't be as sharp. It's an extreme wide angle lens. Its coverage is far greater than the coverage of a normal 28mm lens for 35mm format. So when you've shifted a;; the way, you're using the outer edge of the lens's coverage. It's just not possible for it to be as sharp as the center of the lens's converage.

If I can find them, I'll send them to you. Fact was though, it was in about the same league as the Nikkor 35 PC if you've tested one of those -- meaning the first 8mm or so of shift are very good, but the last three are sub-par. (I tested the recent black-knob versions of each.)
In the end, my Oly 24 Shift was sharper to the corners at 8mm of shift, and the added AoV is welcome much of the time. Though a used Nikkor 28PC is a relative bargain compared to the Oly 24 shift
By far, the best wideangle PC lens I've used is the Contax/Zeiss 35mm PC. It is sharp corner to corner at its full 10mm of shift -- it's as good as the Canon 90 TSE.
