shooting with two 5d

up to now i was shooting with a 1ds and a 20d, sometimes side by side. now i got a 5d as well and thinking of getting a second one. but how can i distinguish the filenames from the two cameras? i guess it is bound to happen that double namimg will occour. using two different folder number is not really the solution, as this doesn't affect the filename. what to do?

If you only shoot raw, you could set one camera to adobe RGB and the other to sRGB. That way the file names will be different by default.

Doing a batch rename is Camera Raw is fast and easy, just make a habit of renaming as soon as the files are copied to the HD in seperate directories.

i thought so that there was no other way.

a fantastic and free utility to rename files in all imaginable ways is 'bulk rename utility'

check it out: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php

DIM4 will rename files as it downloads from a card reader. It has a naming option of '%O', which will pick up the "OwnerName" from the exif data. I just tried it with a 20D file.

You could name one 5D-1 and the other 5D-2, or whatever works best for you.

DIM4 is free at http://www.alanlight.com/dim/Dim.htm

You could use DownloaderPro from Breeze Systems. If you use RawShooterPro for raw conversion it has a fairly primitive but useful downloader with a macro substitution and the ability to insert any text into filenames for a download. Or you can just bulk rename the output file in your raw converter.

Canon should give us the option in camera of selecting yyyy/MM/DD/HR/MM/SS as a file name.
