MK2N switches to SD card ****

New to MKIIn.

I've noticed that each time I take out my CF card and repalce it, the camera has switched to the SD card.

Can I stop this beheaviour. It may be in the manual but I've missed it.

I haven't tried it, but do you switch off the camera before you take out the CF card? If the camera is on, it sounds like a logical behavior. After all, it still needs a card and the SD card is now the only available one.

The reverse might also be true. If you put the CF card back in, and then you briefly remove the SD card (just pull it out and put it back in), the camera should switch back to the CF card at the moment that this is the only available card.

I never switch off the camera and I never switched off the MKII.

You are right about only card being available and this is similar to the MKII, but in that case one had to close the CF door for the camera to switch.

The difference is having to switch off the N for a card change. With the MKII while writing, opening the CF door stopped the card write and unwritten images were lost. Canon now leaves the camera active with the CF door open, lose of images only occurs now if one yanks out the CF card. Not sure if the write automatically continues on the SD card ~ am confused on this exact issue, that’s a neat feature if so.

Nonetheless I’d like a priority CF [or SD] option if present use the preferred card, kind of thing.

The 1DsII works the same way, and it's natural behavior. An active camera should always look for a card to use if it's available. And it's good precautionary practice to turn a device off when adding or removing things to it.

Is the difference in fact then that the IIN switches to the SD card even if you don't close the door? With the II (and presumably the 1Ds-II) you can change cards while powered up without causing it to switch, so long as you don't let the door close.

Yes, exactly.

And I realise I’m in the wrong forum, sorry about that.

The camera stays live, so opening the door does not shut it off like it did before. What I'd like is a priority overrise so the CF card will be selected, if present.

I know I should turn off the camera but I never did before.

Oh wow - I didn't realize the N did not shut off when the door opened. That would drive me absolutely CRAZY for awhile...
