How do you have your shutter button configured?

I'm curious to hear other's rationales for how you have your shutter button configured. Do you have it meter and focus, just meter or just focus? And why?

Meter and release the shutter.

Re: How do you have your shutter button configured?

CF4 1 (foucus on * button) for a few reason , I like to focus when and where I want and I believe multiple presses on the star button actually aids focus or has a chance of making it more accurate.
The Canon AF system is open loop, it does not check to see if focus has been achieved , it merely tells the lens motor to move. Multiple presses almost make this a closed loop system as any press subsequent to the first one where focus has been achieved "checks" it and it alsa makes the lens motor to move in very small increments , possible correcting any overshoot or inertial effects or encoder errors (thats my theory anyway)
Suffice it to say , on one shot , it appears that I get more focus accuracy. If you use the E1 handstarp , this is slightly more awkward and often I change back to the default under certain circumstances. I am not that keen on the soft press button of my 5d and would actually prefer a little less recess , IE that the shutter actuates earlier on in the button press and not so far down , its a very minor niggle however.

I use CF4-3 most of the time, I think the difference is that it meters between shots where 4-1 just meters the first time the shutter is pressed halfway? Maybe I do not understand it like I think I do, though. But for sports, definitely focus with the * button.

The diff between 1 and 3 for CF4 is that with 1 the camera locks the exposure when you press the shutter half-way, but with 3 there is no exposure lock.

CF4-3 for me, nearly all the time. This, combined with Canon's FT-M lenses were one of the selling points of the EOS system for me way back when.

Puts me in control of focus, not the camera.

Meter with the * button, autofocus only used to select spot metering zone with CF 13, since I use Zeiss & Leica lenses. I extended my metering hold time to 60 seconds with the personal function 23.
