Why files ADobe tiff in finder?

Canon 1ds:
Why says they are Adobe TIFF files in finder, and then later when in PS, say they are camera raw? bit confusing?

That's because before Canon got their act together, they were using the .TIF extension for the RAW files. They later changed the RAW files to have a .CRW extension on cameras built after the 1Ds, and then again to the .CR2 extension when the 1DmkII came out. Re: Why files ADobe tiff in finder?

thanks Leo.
but if it says .tif after the file, why does it says then TIFF in the finder?
that extra f there really causes havoc.

Is there any way for a 1ds user to fix this?

Is this the craziest thing you've ever seen?
why didn't they call them jpegs? did they flip a coin, call them tifs or jpegs?

Re: Why files ADobe tiff in finder?

.tif is the 3-letter extension for TIFF files. Why they called it a TIFF file instead of some other format or even .RAW, I have no clue whatsoever.

As for changing the extension that you want the 1Ds to use, unfortunately, that won't be possible without a firmware hack. And even if you did change the extension coming out of the camera, how about the RAW converter programs that look for the .TIF extension when processing 1D or 1Ds raw images? They would need to be changed, too, to recognize the new extension that you want to use.

thanks Leo. It's like some guy was in the back room at Canon late at night with a devilish grin on his face.
