Cleaning Contacts between lens and camera

Does any know what the proper cleaning solution is for cleaning the contacts on the lens and the camera? I've been getting an err 01 code and need to do some cleaning.

Thanks

Brian

Well, i hope i bought the right stuff. I went to Radio Shack and bought "Precision Electronics Cleaner" with the brush.

Be real careful not to get any in the mirror box, or in the glass of the lens for that matter. I don't know what the cleaner consists of, but I'm sure that it is fairly potent. I'd probably use a drop of cleaner on a pec pad or lens tissue to minimize the possibility of getting it on anything else.

It's apparently this stuff. I'd go for the lens tissue or pad idea, I don't want "safe for most plastics" floating around.

A pencil eraser also works well for simply burnishing the contacts.

Just make sure if any of the pencil eraser rubs-off that you don't let it get in the mirror box.

Some pencil erasers have abrasive material in them, and even though they will clean the contacts they can cause microscopic pitting that leads to oxidation.

I clean my contacts with a microfiber cloth, or with a pec pad and a drop of Eclipse Fluid. But any time I have got the lens error message and just used the microfiber cloth, gently, the lens problems never came back.

The gold plating on the contacts is very thin and can be damaged by anything that's abrasive. Best to use a soft dry microfibre cloth or one slightly dampened by a drop of eclipse fluid for stubborn dirt.
