1D2 noise levels at 4MP compared to 1D?

I'm thinking of buying a 1D2 and was wondering how much of its noise advantage was due to the higher resolution and how much was due to inherently lower noise in the sensor itself.

Has anyone compared the noise of a 1D2 to a 1D at 4MP?

The 1D2 at 8mp is cleaner than the 1D at 4mp, so at 4mp it will be even cleaner with downsampling.

I suppose if going from an 8MP to 4MP file is just internal bicubic (?) downsizing then you must be right. I wonder how a 4MP crop from an 8MP image taken on a 1D2 would compare, noise wise, to a 1D image though.
