So...what exactly IS \'comstate.tof\'?

Ever since a couple of firmware upgrades ago my Mk II bodies generate a file on the card named 'comstate.tof.' Anyone know why...? I delete it. Is that bad? Good? Neither...? Thanks.

Re: So...what exactly IS \'comstate.tof\'?

Right; the file started appearing after a recent firmware update (too lazy to look up the number). However, it was the same update that enabled support for the WFT-E1 wireless device, and common belief is that it's related to use with the wireless stuff...

Oh, yes - it's safe to delete it.

Hey, I'm glad someone asked...it's been bugging me to see that file on the cards and not have any clue where it came from.

Binary file of some sort, running the UNIX program "strings" on it doesn't return anything interesting.

I think this is one of those things where Canon could tell you but then they'd have to kill you. I'm pretty sure it must be a major secret!!

Terry:

I did delete it from the cards I have where it appeared, Ridata 1Gig & 512 CF. It had appeared only on about 50% of them. Deleted in / via USB2 CF reader. Strange thing, it came back after shooting with the cards.
