Between my two 1D bodies (Mark I), I know I've put right around 400,000 shutter trips on both of them. I've had the shutter replaced once on both of them when they were around 200,000 and I'm about to send them in again.
My question for other high number shooters is what else should I look to worry about failing?
The mirror has flipped up that whole amount - is there any worry about that coming off the hinges?
The MarkI's do all that I need them to do - I don't need more resolution and rarely better ISO performance. Granted, there are some nice features of the MarkII that make it worth having - but $600 to replace two shutters compared to $7000 for two new bodies is a stretch.
I know that Canon rates the shutters for 150K, but does anybody have an expectation for the life of other parts?
Thanks,
Brian.

AMAZING! Great camera & wise economics since they obviously work for you. I was wondering about the mirror also - seems like that hinge would be next but I only surmise.
Even now, I see the 1D and 1Ds as milestones, with lots of good miles still available!

I agree Brian. I have two 1D with "only" about 150K each. I do need the ISO performance of the 1D2 some times and am considering getting a 1D2 because of that but probably only 1 of them. If I do get a 1D2, I'll shoot it in 4 megapixel mode for events. Don't really want to deal with larger files when shuffling thousands of them on a weekend.

Scott,
I can't verify that being a shutter issue - because on the 1D, the CCD controls the exposure - whereas on the MarkII, the shutter does. I get more of the dying battery syndrome of the shutter closing unresponsively when it seems it needs replaced.
Since the MarkII and S models use the shutter to control exposure, I could see your banding as an issue of the final leaf not closing in the proper manner - but without experience with those cameras or that specific banding pattern, I can't say for sure.

One of my 1d2's just trashed the shutter after a disapointing 59,000 shots, i'm not a happy camper to say the least. I got an error message, checked the pic on the screen to see a black diagonal band from corner to corner. Canon replaced it free of charge and I hope this one will last beyond the 200,000 they say its guaranteed for..........
