Hi, Simon! I just posted a topic "1D Mark II Shutter Stuck" because mine appears to have done the same as yours...at 30,000 frames! I am curious if you use those fast frames per second in high speed drive, wondering if there is a relationship between the faster operation and faster wear. Another friend expeienced the same within 24 hours of me, too, strange issue to have.

Mine did not 'stick' it literally 'dropped' one of the shutter blades, then doubling over on its-self. I really don't think it has to do with using the high speed funcion, .... or it probably does? but I can't see Canon making a camera that has this option if its going to destroy the shutters after a short period of time. It may well be like; driving a car slowly or faster, don't slow down for the corners, therefore the tire's wear out quicker.... I really hope this is not the case.

I just heard here that 4 new (6 months old) 1DII have also broken the shutters in a short period of time this I heard from the leading newspaper group in Mexico. Canon here have denied it saying my camera was the first one they have seen for repair.

On mine, one of the shutter blades settled in front of the sensor and did not move again. The resulting photos had a significant black diagonal line where the blade was.
I believe my 1D Mark II was among the first in the US consumer market and knew I might experience a few bugs, but I am surprised to hear this same issue has occurred in cameras purchased six months ago. This is one of the reasons I posted - with my camera sent in for repair I know it will be fixed but I was curious if others had experienced the same, especially with newer cameras. Hopefully it will be covered even if it's a few days over the 1-year warranty.

I recently tried to have a pair of EOS1n's with 150,000+ frames serviced. Canon refused, because they wouldn't warranty any repairs on those bodies with so many frames. It is heartening to hear that they are still working on your 1D's with as many shutter accuations as you have. I'm guessing as long as they'll service them, they're confident they've got some life left. I have four 1D's, all with 100,000+ and haven't had to replace the shutters on any of them. I like the color, AWB, and higher ISO's of my MKII's better, but the 1D's have been absolute workhorses, and I plan to use them for years to come.

I am still in awe of my original 1D, as it is now approaching 191800 shutter actuations without a single hiccup. that said, I intend to get a mkII sometime between now and football season, budget permitting.
