Re: Aerial Photography

Back in 1973, it was done by an A&P with a field approval. These days field approvals are getting harder to get signed off on those kinds of modifications, but there are STCs out there for doing camera ports of various sizes. The last one I was involved with cost about $7,000, and it was done in Okalahoma on a C-206 back in 1991. It did look like the airplane had come from the factory that way. Very pretty work, though the port was smaller than mine and made shooting through it a bit more cumbersome with a 40mm Hasselblad lens. Mine is under the right front seat and is accessible while sitting in the back seat with the front seat all the way forward. It does mandate a second person to operate the camera. I don't have a photo of it in digital form right now. The one in the 206 was in front of the right front seat and accessing it was tight with the yoke on that side too. I thought it was too easy to have your head in the way of the yoke.

Re: Aerial Photography

Arthus-Bertrand does very nice work, I have seen it before on occasion. My work is totally assignment driven and reflects the parameters of my client, so I rarely have time for the esoteric and abstract work. One day when I retire, maybe. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the info. I figured it would be pricey just like everything else w/ airplanes.

Re: Aerial Photography

I shoot aerials 90% of the time and I do have a gyro, I don't always use it, it's essential for night shooting and when the light fades. I have some night shots at www.images2buy.com click on the link for stock. The site is still work in progress, I have other more corporate images at www.kevinallenphotography.co.uk drop me a line if you think I could answer any questions you have.

Regards,
Kevin

Re: Aerial Photography

When you say gyro system, are you referring to Kenlab type gyro's that mount in the tripod socket, or are you thinking of the all axis gyro's used in the motion film industry? The Kenlab Gyro's are not very expensive, the motion picture ones are very very expensive, some you can only hire and are not for sale.

Kevin.

Re: Aerial Photography

Any recommendations on equipment for ariel shots; camera format, lenses, digital vs film etc when the final result is 16x20 prints for wall decor? Will be shooting from helicopter.
