Similar experience. The Pocket Wizards are really a very good investment.

I had the Bauwens Pulsars and had nothing than troubles with them. Returned them.
Finally I got the basic transmitter and receiver from Pocket Wizard.
I have not missed one flash since. They are 100% relyable and worth the extra penny you pay for them.
Actually it's one of my best buy in year's (thinking of all the hassle I had with flash wires...).
