1DMII duplicate file names, possible bug?

Hi,

I have been doing some astrophotography using my 1DMarkII and using the timer remote to capture a series of bulb exposures and I have had instances of duplicate file names for different images at different times. It has happened with 1.0.2 of the firmware and now 1.0.3 of the firmware. I am not sure of the exact happenings but I have a pretty good idea. It occurs when the battery is running low and then changing the battery and the flash card I get a series of duplicate file names but they have different exif with the correct time etc. On both instances last Sat. night, I was taking a series of 10 60 second shots, at the end of the series I check the battery and the number of shots left on the card and make sure that I can finish another series before starting one. At the end of a series of shots I noticed that the battery indicator was flashing and I only had room for 7 more shots so I made sure that all the images where on the card, no activity and changed the battery and the flash card, then started another sequence, 7 of the 10 shots in that sequence were duplicate names of the last 7 on the previous card, except the time was correct for the exposure, this happened again when I had to change the battery, but with 10 shots. Anyone else seen this? I know the latest firmware was supposed to correct some problems with bulb exposures but not this one.

Thanks,
Alan

Never heard of it happening from low battery, but this is known to occur with the pro bodies on occasion when the camera locks up (err 99?). CaptureOne had to revise their capture naming because of problems duplicate names caused with their software. When you changed the batter did you turn the camera off first or just pull the battery?

Re: 1DMII duplicate file names, possible bug?

Hi,

I turned the camera off first. I first made sure it was not doing anything and looked at the last image that was taken, I then turned off the camera, changed the battery and card, then turned it back on and made sure the card was empty and then proceeded, I did not get any error messages. This happened to me the last time I was out, but I did not realize it till after I got home. I was able to save the images by downloading to different directories, but it is irratating having 10 images with the same name, just different times.

Thanks.

Alan
